Jira’s List view counts work items but doesn’t add up their story points. The Story points total for Jira skin adds a Total row that does, in your own browser.

Steps

  1. In Skins Studio, open Explore, pick Story points total for Jira and click Create App.
  2. On Jira, open the Skins side panel from the browser toolbar. The skin is listed under On this page.
  3. Switch it on. Jira reloads with a Total row.

What you get

  • A Total row at the end of the List view, built from Jira’s own row, with the Story points sum, say 43.
  • The split by status: To Do 11 · In Progress 16 · Done 16.
  • A total that follows the list: filter it and the total matches.

Limits

  • It doesn’t add sums to dashboard gadgets or statistics views.
  • It can’t group totals by assignee or component.
  • Story points only, not other number fields such as remaining estimates.
  • It changes only your view; each colleague turns it on for themselves.

Other options

  • Spreadsheet export: export the list and build a pivot table. One team put it at half an hour a week.
  • Confluence table macro: sum a saved filter in Confluence. Needs a Confluence page.
  • Google Sheets script: pull the data in with a script. Someone has to write it.
  • Marketplace app: buy an app recommended on the ticket. It costs money.
