How to highlight rows and total amounts in Salesforce list views

The Highlights and totals for Salesforce template colours list view rows by rule (won deals, close dates coming up, big amounts) and adds a totals row that adds up the Amount column.

Lightning list views show every row the same way and never add anything up: to see which deals close this month or what the pipeline in a list is worth, you build a report. The Highlights and totals for Salesforce template colours rows by rule and adds a totals row under the list, in your own browser.

Steps

  1. In Skins Studio, open Explore, pick Highlights and totals for Salesforce and click Create App.
  2. Open a list view in Lightning, such as All Opportunities. Open the Skins side panel from the browser toolbar. The skin is listed under On this page.
  3. Switch it on. Won deals turn green, close dates in the next 30 days turn amber, and amounts of 100,000 or more are bold.
  4. Look under the last row: the totals row adds up the Amount column and shows the number of records and the average.

What you get

  • Rows and cells coloured by rule: green for Closed Won, amber for a close date in the next 30 days, bold for big amounts.
  • A totals row under the list with the sum of the Amount column, the number of records and the average.
  • Amounts read in your locale, whether the list shows “93.000,00 €” or “€93,000.00”, and the total in the same format.

Limits

  • The rules are part of the template: change the colours, the stages, the 30 days or the 100,000 in Studio.
  • The total adds up the rows the list has loaded. Lightning loads a list 50 rows at a time, so scroll to the end of a long list first, or use the Record count template to see how many there are.
  • It totals currency and number columns. It doesn’t convert between currencies: in a multi-currency org, filter the list to one currency first.
  • The colours are yours: colleagues who don’t use the skin see the list as it is.

Other options

  • Reports: summary reports add totals and averages, and conditional highlighting colours report cells.
  • Conditional Field Formatting: in Setup, an admin can colour fields on Lightning record pages by rule. It applies to record pages, not list views.
  • Kanban view: a list view’s Kanban shows the total amount for each stage.
  • List view charts: the chart button next to the list shows a sum by a field.
  • Ask Salesforce: upvote the idea. Its status is Open, as is the one for sums and averages.
